Food security projects feeding families in Tuareg villages
We are pleased to report that both the food security projects are now producing vegetables. During our visit to Timbuktu in February to the Tuareg village of Togha we met with the villagers in the garden that was full of vegetables. The first project in N'Dala initially made good progress but suffered a setback last Autumn when their new well came under pressure when additional nomadic groups settled in the village and as a consequence there was limited water for the new garden. The Ministry of Hydrology in Timbuktu has confirmed that there is ample water available below the surface and have recommended that a second well be dug with improved capacity to meet the demands of people, livestock and garden. We are now looking into the costs of creating a new well with solar energy pump. Photos relating to water storage and pumping can be seen in the photo gallery.
